The appointment was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), as per an order issued by the Department of Personnel &amp; Training (DoPT). Mr. Chaturvedi will formally assume charge on <strong>1 December 2025<\/strong>, succeeding the outgoing Chairman. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Who_Is_Vivek_Chaturvedi_%E2%80%94_A_Veteran_IRS_Officer\"><\/span>Who Is Vivek Chaturvedi? \u2014 A Veteran IRS Officer<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Vivek Chaturvedi is a 1990-batch officer of the Indian Revenue Service (Customs &amp; Indirect Taxes) (IRS C&amp;IT).  Before this appointment, he served as a Member of the CBIC, and earlier held key positions including Principal Director General of Vigilance and Chief Vigilance Officer at CBIC.  Over three decades, he has accumulated extensive expertise in customs administration, indirect tax policy, vigilance, data analytics, risk management, and compliance oversight. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Significance_of_the_Appointment_%E2%80%94_Continuity_Amid_Transition\"><\/span>Significance of the Appointment \u2014 Continuity Amid Transition<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His appointment comes at a time when the previous Chairman, Sanjay Kumar Agarwal \u2014 belonging to the 1988-batch IRS \u2014 has superannuated and stepped down on 28 November 2025.
