class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the standout aspects of India\u2019s 2025 CDI performance is its strong showing in the <strong>Environment component<\/strong>, where India ranks <strong>8th globally<\/strong>. <br>This high ranking is primarily attributed to India\u2019s <strong>low per-capita greenhouse gas emissions<\/strong>, a factor that reduces its environmental footprint relative to more industrialised economies. <br>Such a performance underscores India\u2019s potential role as a responsible global actor on climate and environmental sustainability \u2014 a fact particularly relevant amid increasing global emphasis on climate change, carbon neutrality, and eco-friendly development practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" In particular:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In <strong>Trade<\/strong> and <strong>Development Finance<\/strong>, India ranks <strong>38th<\/strong> \u2014 among the lowest in the index. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Other weaker pillars include <strong>Investment<\/strong> (31st), <strong>Migration<\/strong> (36th), and <strong>Security<\/strong> (31st). <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The low ranking in Trade suggests that India\u2019s trade policies (tariffs, subsidies, import procedures, etc.) are viewed as less favourable for supporting broader global development, especially concerning imports from developing nations. <br>Similarly, the dismal score in Development Finance indicates limited foreign aid (or official development assistance \u2013 ODA) relative to what might be expected from a major economy like India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Other pillars \u2014 such as Investment, Migration and Security \u2014 further reflect challenges in foreign direct investment policies, acceptability for refugees\/immigrants, and contribution to international security or peacekeeping efforts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Income-Adjusted_Ranking_A_Better_Perspective\"><\/span>Income-Adjusted Ranking: A Better Perspective<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Interestingly, when adjusted for India\u2019s income level \u2014 acknowledging that India is still a developing economy \u2014 the CDI gives India a better standing: <strong>29th<\/strong>.<br>This income-adjusted rank suggests that relative to what might be expected from a country at its level of economic development, India is contributing reasonably to global development.
