The agreement focuses especially on children at two key ages \u2014 <strong>5 years<\/strong> and <strong>15 years<\/strong> \u2014 when biometric features like fingerprints and iris scans either stabilize or change significantly. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_Is_the_Mandatory_Biometric_Update_MBU\"><\/span>What Is the Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU)?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>At the time of initial Aadhaar enrolment for very young children, biometric data (fingerprint, iris) may not be collected or may be incomplete because their physiological traits are not fully mature. UIDAI, therefore, mandates that children update their biometrics twice: once at age <strong>5<\/strong>, when fingerprint and iris become more stable, and again around <strong>15<\/strong>, as their features evolve during adolescence. UIDAI\u2019s collaboration with BIL isn\u2019t just a technical fix \u2014 it\u2019s about understanding why parents or guardians may delay or skip biometric updates, and then using \u201cnudges\u201d to change behaviour. Under this MoU, evidence-based strategies will be designed, tested, and rolled out.
