Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh is set to emerge as a major centre for telecom manufacturing with the proposed establishment of Asia’s first dedicated Telecom Manufacturing Zone (TMZ). The project is expected to attract an investment of approximately ₹5,500 crore and generate more than 18,000 employment opportunities. As many as 24 companies have initiated the application process to establish manufacturing units in the proposed Telecom Manufacturing Zone. The planned ecosystem is expected to accommodate around 24–25 manufacturing units, helping bring different parts of the telecom value chain together in one location. The proposed facilities will manufacture telecom equipment and a range of associated devices and components.
Around 170 acres have been identified for the first phase of the project. More than 90 acres are located in the Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Counter Magnet City, commonly known as SADA, while more than 70 acres are located in the Gwalior IT Park. The government has indicated that additional land may be identified because investor interest has exceeded the currently available area.
The project gained momentum following investor roadshows held in Delhi and Mumbai in August 2026. The Delhi roadshow generated investment commitments of approximately ₹3,500 crore, with potential employment of around 14,000 people. The Mumbai roadshow added commitments of approximately ₹2,000 crore and around 4,000 potential employment opportunities.
