According to a senior official, a central team of 13 people began reviewing the West Bengal schools’ midday meal program on Monday. In addition, the joint review mission, which included V Bhaskar, director of the PM Poshan Scheme, officials from the Union education ministry, a nutritionist, and a UNICEF representative, met with representatives from the state education departments.

On Monday, the officials went to a number of schools in the North and South 24 Parganas districts, where their evaluation is expected to be finished by February 6. The team, which arrived in the city on Sunday evening, will examine the midday meal program’s food quality and school infrastructure.

“This is just a regular visit. In the United States, we carry out such reviews each year. We will make every effort to visit as many districts as we can. After the meeting, a team member said, “We met the School Education department officials today.” She stated that the team will prepare statistics for submission to the Center following the review, during which they will speak with schoolchildren and their parents.

The group went to a school in Rajarhat, which is in the North 24 Parganas districts. There, they talked to the parents of the students and asked about the food’s quality. The team went on to schools in the South 24 Parganas district after that. As part of the PM Poshan program, the federal government recently provided the state with a fund totaling Rs. 372 crore to provide schoolchildren with healthy meals. It has also given the school education department an additional Rs 250 crore to spend on building new facilities.
