Berhampur University to conduct research on marine ecology of Bay of Bengal

Berhampur University: Odisha’s Berhampur University (BU) on Tuesday said it has signed an MoU with an international think tank for collaborative research in the field of marine ecology and seeking to increase livelihood opportunities for the fisherfolk in the Bay of Bengal region.

Geetanjali Dash, vice chancellor of the university, stated that the state has a coastline that is 480 kilometers long and that thousands of people depend on the sea for their livelihood. The college inked the concurrence with the Cove of Bengal Program Between Legislative Association (BOBP-IGO) which fills in as a research organization on transboundary and contemporary public issues of the part nations concerning fisheries the executives.

Bangladesh, India, the Maldives, and Sri Lanka are currently members of the organization, while Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, and Thailand are cooperating non-contracting parties. On Monday, Geetanjali Dash, the vice chancellor of the university, witnessed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between P Krishnan, director of BOBP-IGO, and Sachidananda Nayak, the registrar of Berhampur University.

The two organizations have agreed to collaborate on various academic endeavors for five years, as stated in the Memorandum of Understanding. The exercises incorporate understudy and researcher trade, cooperative examination and investigating outside subsidizing open doors. Other than the understudies, specialists and instructors of sea life science and climate science, different divisions of the college would likewise be profited from the MoU, said the bad habit chancellor. The cooperative exploration on the marine environment and occupation improvement of the fisherfolk will likewise help policymakers while planning programs for the state, said the VC.
