Tariq Mansoor quit as AMU VC on Tuesday, a day after he was nominated to the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council.

Pro-vice-chancellor Mohammad Gulrez will serve as vice-chancellor until Mansoor’s successor is appointed, according to a notification issued by AMU registrar Mohammad Imran.

In his letter of resignation, Mansoor thanked the faculty, staff, colleagues, and alumni of the university. He wrote, “I especially feel proud of how we all came together to face challenges from time to time, most notably the gloom of the Covid-19 pandemic.”

Additionally, he stated that he “was blessed to have the opportunity to lead AMU into the centenary” in 2020. After 64 years, a current Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Bhai Modi, attended our University’s Centenary Year Celebrations 2020 event. His letter reads, “PM’s speech will be remembered as an important landmark in AMU’s history, lauding AMU’s contributions to nation building, and in which he also called AMU a “mini India.”

The letter continues, “I am sure the University will play an important role in the continued development of our nation as our nation enters the path of ‘new India’ and acquires the centerstage in world affairs with G20 Presidency.”

He likewise communicated lament for “not having the option to finish up the cycle for arrangement” of his replacement “because of undeniable conditions”. ” He pleaded with them to kindly accept it.

Mansoor is one of six people named by the Governor as MLCs against eight vacancies, according to a notification that was issued late on Monday night by Chandrashekhar, the special secretary of the Government of Uttar Pradesh.
