Amazon launch computer skills programme for Eklavya Model Residential Schools

In conjunction with Amazon, the Union Tribal Affairs Ministry launched a two-day computational skills training program for Eklavya Model Residential Schools teachers of tribal students on Wednesday.

The face-to-face training workshop for 54 EMRS teachers from six states—Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan, and Telangana—focuses on providing tribal and other communities with early access to computer science education.

The Amazon Future Engineer (AFE)-CSR program aims to pique students’ interest in further education and computer science careers. Additionally, it provides teachers with the necessary support and resources to raise awareness of computer science and make learning it easier.

Launching the AFE program in the 54 schools in these six states that have access to digital infrastructure, such as a computer lab and stable, active internet connectivity, is one of the goals.

The fundamentals of computer science, an introduction to coding, logical sequencing, loops, block programming on open, secure source platforms, class chat sessions to discuss various tech projects, and other topics will all be covered in the course modules.

Residential schools have been constructed in remote areas to provide tribal students with a high-quality education as part of a central sector initiative that was launched in 1997-98. The ministry has approved 684 of these schools thus far, of which 378 are said to be operational.
