AISHE report 2021-22 reflects gender, social inclusivity in HEis, says UGC chairman M Jagadesh Kumar

AISHE report 2021-22: University Grants Commission (UGC) chairman Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar highlighting the All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) report 2021-22, said, “I am delighted to see the remarkable strides in Indian higher education. This report is not merely a data point but reflects a story of inclusivity, opportunity, and progress in Indian academic spaces.”

According to the AISHE report for the years 2021–22, higher education institutions have seen a “rapid” increase in female enrollment, with a 32% increase between 2014 and 2015. The UGC chairman declared, “It gives me tremendous pride.” He went on to say that the upward trend in higher education enrollment is widespread across all social classes and reflects a fundamental shift in female students’ access to higher education.

The trend indicates that the Indian educational system empowers women to choose their own career paths. This inclusive environment has been made possible by initiatives like targeted scholarships, girls’ hostels, and flexible learning options,” Kumar added.

Additionally, enrollment in higher education among minority communities has increased significantly, according to the report. This paints a positive picture. In higher education, the total number of minority students has increased by 38%, and the total number of minority female students has also increased by 42.3%,” Kumar continued.
