AI- tool ChatGPT fails to clear UPSC Civil Services Prelims exam 2022 by 30%

Analytics India Magazine asserts that the AI-based tool ChatGPT, which passed the Wharton School MBA program and the US medical entrance exam, did not pass the UPSC Civil Services exam.

ChatGPT attempted each and every one of the 100 questions in Set A of the UPSC Civil Service Prelims 2022 exam. Only 54 of them were answered correctly by the tool. The fact that the cutoff score for candidates in the general category was 87.54 indicates that ChatGPT was unable to pass the most difficult exam in the world.

The app did not respond when ChatGPT was asked if it could pass the UPSC prelim exam; definite response. As an Al language model, I do have a lot of knowledge, including about the UPSC exam and other subjects related to it. However, passing the UPSC prelims exam requires not only knowledge but also the ability to apply one’s knowledge, think critically, and manage one’s time effectively. As a result, it stated, “I cannot definitively answer the question of whether or not I will be able to pass the UPSC preliminary exam.”

“ChatGPT will not be able to respond to inquiries regarding current events because its knowledge spans only September 2021. However, Analytics India Magazine stated, “ChatGPT provided incorrect responses for topics such as Economy and Geography that are not necessarily time-specific.”
